That's true - AWS Athena have diffinte set of compute resource in the backend and all these compute resources are shared across the queries that run. We can run multiple queries in the same workgroup, I prefer using workgroups majorly to segegrate the type of queries across different projects, workloads or use cases. It helps in controlling access, putting various limits and also in tracking costs.
